That's Just One Of My Personal Crusades

Mr. Who Am Us Anyway - you are right, autumn is here and its about time I posted something for the new season.  Today's post really doesn't have anything to do with the fall season but it is such a great song that I could not help myself.   First of all I am a sucker for a rock song that starts out with tubular bells!  Then a groovy bass line kicks in and time starts to fly.  By none other than Todd Rundgren's band The Nazz, this is the first track off of their second album Nazz Nazz.  Forget All About It has an off kilter rhythm that sets it firmly in the late 60s.   Todd finds just the right guitar tone throughout, sometimes jangly, sometimes psychedelic on the solo.  A softer middle section with harpsichord accompaniment is almost a jump forward to his Runt period wherein he became the male version of Carole King.  And a short but great bridge back to the chorus, a few bangs on the chimes and it is sadly over.

It's a great autumn record -- and why this season is the only season to have 2 names for it I'll never know -- but crisp, cool, and as psychedelic as a walk in the park with the sun slanting down through the colored leaves.

Truest story I know: My roommate as a freshman in college -- a far, far better roommate than I was, believe me -- at one point did get psychedelic to the point where he couldn't talk, but then, upon someone putting on the Mike Oldfield album, suddenly and most unexpectedly roused himself and proclaimed most loudly and ringingly: "Man, I just LOVE those Bubular Tells."

:-)

Listening to this twice as we all should do with Mr. P recommended songs I realize I never heard this song with headphones or with concentration before. It's freaking amazing.

The opening falsetto that drops an octave or 3 in the phrase "For-GET all about it a while" hits that sweet spot J. Lennon did in Ticket to Ride with "... but SHE don't care ..."

You really just nailed the magic of this thing by noting time how time starts to fly in this song and sadly has to end -- listening, I started to dread it ending ...

Thanks for the great post and sending me off to yet another Mr. P sparked download ...

Dude. I miss your insights & often surprising (to me) leads to great under-appreciated music. If you'd charge a subscription to your blog, I'd gladly pay.

Life is sad, life is a bust, but when you have a chance, pls post (even a cursory) note re some song or band you happen to like when you have a chance? I know I'm not the only one who will quick give it a couple-three listens and be better for it ...
